KEEPING UP WITH PHASES OF LIFE

As we grow older, so many things change - our dreams, our health, our work, and even the state of the overall economy and the society in which we live in.  So how do we cope up?

First, we have to know what we really want. Then remain committed and determined to follow through on our goals. In the process, don't forget to take care of yourself - which applies to all aspects including physical, mental, spiritual, and social components.

Hopefully, with all ingredients in place, the rest is up to you and to destiny. The key is being able to say to yourself you have done and given your best, regardless of the eventual outcome.

Man has conveyed his ideas to others via writing, whatever the medium may be. Historically, writing has transformed from papyri to ink and paper to typewriters and now to the electronic media, including the internet. Blogs have become one of the most popular platforms of sharing one's thoughts. If you have a good concept or two, it may be better shared with others especially if it can elicit some benefit.

2009 is definitely getting off to a better than expected start here at agingbasics.com. For one, there is a new feature - Mini Book Review by Mr. Lifedefiner (more info at the About Us section).  For our maiden mini book review, featured is Living Agelessly: Creating a Lifestyle for Midlife and Beyond by award-winning author Linda Altoonian .

Here are some thoughts for the day:

Regular exercise may be hard to do. But just think of the benefits or better still, the potential added minutes to your life that you will miss, and you will GET ON to that threadmill or start running, or whatever form of exercise or sports.

With the gloom on the news such as with the Madoff affinity fraud case, it is time we rely on ourselves all the more. But then, it becomes a challenge since no man is an island. The point is prudence and wisdom should always serve as guides.

Aside from rainy days and sad stories that tend to be "down" days, also up there in the list are "post-holiday" days. However, it is always a good thing when one is able to go on and face the tasks at hand. So cheer up!

Life is not all about who cries the loudest or has the last laugh; it is more about the mix of fun, laughter, and sorrow and the conduct of the journey or process.

An effective way of approaching life is to take it in snippets or phases. Looking at it from the big picture is ideal but there are times when one has to prioritize. Remember, Rome wasn't built in just 1 day!

Aging backwards- is it possible? Well, technically, it may not be the case, especially in terms of physical and temporal years. Otherwise one will reverse in age all the way to zero or even negative. One way to look at it is that health (in all aspects, including financial as well) can be maintained at an optimum level so that one can enjoy the golden years as anticipated.

The perfect pleasure has been described as one that is exquisite and at the same time leaves something more to the imagination, akin to an unsatisfiable quenching of a thirst for more. But the best "perfect pleasure" comes from the satisfaction of accomplishment made, knowing that one has given his or her all, and most importantly is reached according to one's own terms and not by any other arbitrary standard.

Most of the time, greater benefits can be derived when one goes with the flow (hence, the term the trend is your friend). But there will also be times when being contrarian or having the courage to go against what is popular can also lead to big rewards. Stick your ground, especially when you have or know the data.

Sometimes, the focus has to be on the direction. Most would agree that it sure feels better running towards winning than running away from losing, no matter where one is on the spectrum of life.
