cherrypick (v)

-to pick the best or most desirable

benchmark (n)

-the study of a competitor's product or business practices in order to improve or enhance the performance of one's own company or organization

When benchmarking certain parameters, it certainly is not good practice if one cherrypicks the data as it does not represent the true picture of the situation.

Unless otherwise indicated, the definitions for this section come from the 2006 edition of Webster's New Explorer Encyclopedic Dictionary (published by Federal Street Press, a division of Merriam-Webster, Inc., Springfield, MA).
